...don't do it like that...!!!...

...do...!...

...depends... ... ...!...

...which...?...

...mmmm...

...hmmm...

-> NEED to test the marshlands ground safety status, verify permafrost depths and natural methane levels while operating on the new russia north west mission...

...yes... ...

...and we...

...eeeeeh...

Ground Depth of Hard Rock

To test the ground depth of hard rock, you can use:

- physical probing

- non-invasive geophysical surveys

- direct drilling

depending on your required accuracy and site conditions. [1, 2]

Physical and Mechanical Methods

  1. Manual Probing:

Use a heavy steel rod, pipe probe, or crowbar to push or hammer into the ground until it firmly refuses to advance, which defines the refusal depth. [1, 2]

  2. Dynamic Probing & Penetrometers:

Use a Soil Penetrometer or dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP) to drive a pointed tip using a standard dropping weight, measuring the increasing resistance to map the depth where hard strata begin. [1, 2]

  3. Test Pits or Trenching:

Excavate a small pit or trench using a backhoe or hand tools to visually inspect and measure the exact soil overburden layer sitting directly on top of the bedrock. [1]

  4. Geophysical Methods (Non-Invasive)

    • Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR):  Send high-frequency radio waves into the ground; this works best for shallow bedrock mapping by detecting the reflection boundary between softer soil/clay and solid rock. [1, 2]

    • Seismic Refraction Surveys:

Generate a shockwave using a hammer or small charge at the surface and record the travel times using an array of geophones to calculate the depth and hardness of underlying rock strata based on sound velocity. [1, 2]

  5. Direct Drilling

    Core Drilling / Rotary Drilling:

Drill directly into the ground with a mechanical rig to extract physical core samples, giving you the absolute precise depth, thickness, and geological composition of the hard rock layer. [1, 2]
