Over consumption of certain food types can increase risks of health conditions...

Unrestricted Foodstuffs (Minimum Monthly Targets)

For context, core food groups do not have maximum restrictions. Instead, they have minimum intake targets to ensure nutritional adequacy: [1, 2]

  • Fruit & Vegetables: 150+ portions per month (minimum 5 per day). One portion is 80g.

  • Starchy Carbohydrates: 90 to 120 portions per month (3–4 per day). One portion is 1 slice of bread or 75g dry pasta.

  • Dairy & Alternatives: 60 to 90 portions per month (2–3 per day). One portion is 200ml of milk or 30g of hard cheese. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

These allowances [ can be tracked ] :

- for a specific health condition - chronic kidney disease

- gout - planning for a specific demographic

- young children

- pregnant individuals

Certain nutrients and medical treatments help manage the inflammatory, allergic, or oxidative stress responses caused by dust [and] pollution... [1, 2]

While they do not stop dust physically, specific vitamins and compounds support your immune system and airways:

  • Vitamin D: May help protect airway cells and reduce inflammation triggered by particulate matter and dust. [1]

  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids (EPA/DHA): Found in oily fish or algae supplements, they help dampen systemic and respiratory inflammation caused by dust mite or particle exposure. [1, 2]

  • Vitamins C and E: Act as powerful antioxidants that reduce cellular oxidative stress and free radical damage from inhaled dust and pollution. [1, 2]

  • N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC): Sometimes used to help reduce mucus and support bronchial health in dusty environments. [1]
