1. Pre-Shift Preparation (15 Minutes Prior)

  • Early Arrival:

The incoming guard must arrive [ up to ] 15 minutes before the shift starts. This buffer ensures the handover is never rushed. [1, 2, 3]

...pfhh...a bit in [ early ]...

...uh we'll review...

...and that...

...mmmn..

  • Identity Verification:

The outgoing guard must verify the identity of the incoming guard against the roster before granting access to the guard room. [1]

...duhh...!...

...oh...so it could be a [ fake ]...

...mmmn...

...and the other off sick...!...

...owhh...!...

  • The No-Abandonment Rule:

The outgoing guard must never abandon the post until the incoming guard is fully briefed, signed on, and ready to assume duty. [1]

...yeah...

2. Status Briefing & Incident Review

The outgoing guard conducts a face-to-face brief covering: [1, 2]

  • Active Incidents:

Any ongoing security breaches, medical situations, or unresolved maintenance issues.

  • BOLO (Be On the Lookout):

Descriptions of suspicious individuals, vehicles, or expected VIP visitors.

  • Temporary Vulnerabilities:

Active construction zones, offline CCTV cameras, or broken locks. [1, 2, 3, 4]

...

...oh we exchange those/that...

...uh a bit..

...only...

...a bit...

..at that...

...mmmn...

...

3. Physical & System Handover

Both guards must jointly inspect the operational tools and physical parameters: [1]

  • Equipment Audit:

...like what...?...

Test the functionality of :

  • two-way radios

  • body cameras

  • flashlights

  • access control terminals

...mmmn...!...

  • Asset Accountability:

Conduct a physical count and transfer of all :

           - master keys

           - facility access badges

    - vehicle keys

...owhhh...!...

  • Perimeter Walk:

If the site is complex, the guards should perform a final joint walkthrough of high-risk zones before the official swap. [1, 2, 3, 4]

...uh do...!...

...then we know there's two...

...and in guard...!...

...

...ehhh...!!...

...hey..!...

...that may vary...!...

...mmmn...!...

4. Formal Log-Out and Sign-Off

A change of guard is only secure if it creates a legally binding audit trail. [1]

  • Log Book Entry:

The outgoing guard documents the precise time of the handover in the [ log book ] or digital shift management system. [1, 2]

  • Dual Signatures:

Both officers must sign the shift log. By signing, the incoming officer formally accepts accountability for the site, and the outgoing officer is legally booked off duty. [1, 2]
