Manage an upset stomach by sipping small amounts of clear fluids and practicing strict hygiene, such as frequent handwashing with soap and warm water, to prevent spreading infections. [1, 2]

Upset Stomach Procedures and Treatments

  • Hydration: Sip small amounts of water, clear broth, or oral rehydration solutions to prevent dehydration.

  • Bland Diet: Eat small, easy-to-digest foods like plain toast, crackers, rice, or bananas when you feel ready.

  • Rest and Comfort: Rest at home and apply a warm heating pad or take a warm bath to relax abdominal muscles.

  • Medication: Take paracetamol for discomfort if needed, and avoid nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen which can irritate the stomach. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]

Skin Hygiene and Infection Control

  • Handwashing: Wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds after using the toilet and before touching food.

  • Surface Disinfection: Clean contaminated household surfaces and objects using a bleach-based cleaner.

  • Laundry Care: Wash soiled clothing or bedding separately on a hot laundry cycle.

  • Gentle Skin Care: If experiencing skin irritation or rashes near the abdomen, use tepid water, fragrance-free cleansers, and pat the skin dry gently instead of rubbing. [1, 2, 3]
