Key Tactical Principles
1. Reconnaissance and Intelligence Gathering
Before pushing into enemy-held ground, you must understand what you are walking into.
The High Ground:
Move to hilltops or elevated areas to survey the border.
Hilltop reconnaissance allows you to observe rival movements and anticipate where conflicts may occur while minimizing the risk of an ambush.
Probing Attacks:
Use smaller, cheaper units or skirmishers to feel out the enemy's defenses before launching a full-scale assault.
2. Stealth and Infiltration
Pushing large forces into contested territory quickly draws attention.
Small Formations:
March in small, lightly encumbered groups, as they are significantly harder to spot than large columns
Avoid Chokepoints:
Enemies often heavily fortify or mine obvious roads, rivers, and natural chokepoints How can soldiers get deep into enemy territory? Opt for cross-country routes through cover like forests.
Misdirection:
Employ distraction tactics. For instance, throw fake smoke screens or execute skirmishes minutes before your main assault to force the rival to second-guess where your primary push is coming from
3. Attrition and Disruption
If a direct frontal assault is too costly, you can opt to weaken the rival gradually.
Pillaging and Harassment:
Target the enemy's economic lifelines, infrastructure, and supply lines.
The Fabian Strategy:
Avoid pitched battles entirely. Instead...
