A wilderness SOS is a distress signal used when you are in imminent danger of loss of life or limb and have no means of self-rescue.
You can trigger this via satellite devices, or use visual and auditory methods like a survival whistle, bright colors, or signal mirrors.

Satellite SOS Devices
When cellular networks are out of reach, satellite communication devices are the most reliable way to summon help.
Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs): Devices like the ACR ResQLink 400 or rescueME PLB1 send a distress signal and your exact location to a global search and rescue network. They require no monthly subscription, but are strictly for one-way SOS.
Satellite Messengers: Devices such as the Garmin inReach Messenger Plus or Zoleo allow you to trigger an SOS while also maintaining two-way text communication with rescue coordinators.
Emergency Response: When a dedicated SOS device is activated, its signal goes to professional monitoring centers (such as GEOS Worldwide or the Garmin Response Centre). These centers relay your GPS coordinates to local search and rescue teams while messaging your designated emergency contacts.
